ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT

 
 

    This department is responsible for power supply to the rolling stock, metro facilities and equipment. 285 electric power substations, including 39 traction substations, 106 traction step-down substations and 140 step-down substations provide metro with electricity. 145 substations provide rolling stock with power supply. Cable network makes 10 thousand kilometers. The electrical department operates over 570 thousand lighting units and devices used in metro stations and tunnels.
   Substations and cable network are protected from short-circuits and high-voltage surge. Moreover, substations are equipped with automated devices, supervisory control and signaling systems that maintain metro operating conditions and enable reserves to be switched on rapidly when necessary.
   This department improved power supply system, made the work of devices more reliable and provided for interruptible power supply of all metro constructions and devices.
