Voice of Metro

Moscow metro which was the first metro of Russia and the former USSR was opened for public service on 15 May, 1935. Delegates of the Seventh All Union Congress became honorary passengers getting the privilege to travel in the metro during the trial runs.
It was 69 years later, on 15 May, 2004 that a new generation train «Rusich» could repeat the unique ride from Park Kultury to Sokol’niki and back. Legendary theatre and cinema artists became honorary guests of the unusual train; they put off their business and came to congratulate the metro of the capital on the oncoming birthday. The famous actors had presents for their favorite audience, that is Moscow metro passengers.
Ellina Bystritskaya, Tatiana Vasilyeva, Ekaterina Vasilyeva, Galina Volchek, Valery Garkalin, Ludmila Gurchenko, Lev Durov, Valery Zolotukhin, Vladimir Men’shov, Svetlana Nemolyaeva, Olga Ostroumova, Lubov’ Polishchuk, Konstantin Raikin, Nina Ruslanova, Valentina Talyzina, Mikhail Ul’yanov, Natalia Fateeva, Alexander Shirvindt, Boris Shcherbakov, Vladimir Etush, Sergey Yurskiy, Yury Yakovlev, Leonid Yarmol’nik had recorded their voices announcing the stations of Sokol’nicheskaya line.
The unique train set off at 21:15 and carried its passengers from Park Kultury to Sokol’niky, a route praised in the famous song of L.I.Utesov. The guests were surprised to hear the actors’ voices instead of usual announcements on Sokol’nicheskaya line.
«Rusich» made no stops during its unusual ride, but the driver slowed down intentionally to let the passengers look at the majestic beauty of the world-renowned underground palaces created almost 70 years before. Sokol’niki, Krasnye Vorota, Kropotkinskaya stations, which received Grand Prix at the international exhibition in Paris in 1937, were among them.
The artists left metro after the half-an-hour ride, but their unforgettable voices provided for passengers’ festive mood greeting them for two weeks from May, 15.
