«Krasnaya strela» train
To commemorate its third anniversary on October 1, 2006, «Russian Railways» Company together with Moscow metro prepared a special present for Muscovites: a unique train «Krasnaya strela» representing a wheeled museum entered service at Vorobiovy Gory station on October 9, 2006. The train is to run on Sokol’nicheskaya line which is the oldest line of Moscow metro.

The inauguration of the unusual train marked the 75-th anniversary of the legendary train «Krasnaya strela». «Krasnaya strela» united two capitals – Moscow and St.Petersburg and became popular for its comfort, hospitality and punctuality.

The red color of the train is similar to the color of the first Russian express and on both sides of the train one can see its name «Krasnaya strela» and number «75». Special posters telling about the manufacture, commissioning and operation of «Krasnaya strela» along with its role in the development of Russian passenger transportation had been made specially for the unique train. Unique documents, rare photographs and pictures were used for the exhibition.

The commissioning of the train-museum is a part of a major jubilee programme «Connecting hearts of the capitals» held in Moscow and St.Petersburgh throughout 2006. «Krasnaya strela» is the third special train in Moscow metro. Trains «Kurskaya duga» and «Narodny opolchenets» that remind of soviet heroes fighting in World War 2 are already in operation.

Vladimir Yakunin, the president of «Russian railways» company, honoured guests of Moscow Government and the head of Moscow metro Dmitry Gaev took part in the commissioning of «Krasnaya strela». Journalists and those who happened to be traveling on Sokol’nicheskaya line on that day were the first passengers of the train-museum.
