Metro performance in February
Latest performance figures show that in February 2012 metro ridership increased by 8.5% compared to the same period last year. Passenger demand was at the highest level on February, 22 with 8.5 million passenger journeys bringing the monthly total to 196.5 million passenger journeys.
Statistics show that the number of people paying full fare rose by 16.2% while the number of passengers using concessionary fare tickets dropped by 7.7%.
Hundreds of officers and other specialist staff have been working across the Moscow Metro network to reduce fare evasion. As a result, they helped deter almost 193 thousand cases of fare evasion and confiscated 4671 social cards used by people who are not eligible to have them. In February 2012, Moscow Metro collected over 1.5 million roubles in fines from 2009 people.
