Moscow metro to introduce mobile phone payment system
Getting access to metro will soon be possible just by swiping a mobile phone as Moscow metro and MTS telephone operator are now beginning to test the new mobile phone payment system. In just over a month, Moscow metro will offer MTS subscribers to have a special application uploaded and NFC-antennaes installed into their mobile phones. Passengers will be able to purchase or exchange their MTS SIM-cards for the ones with the new application. This service will be available at Moscow metro stations and in MTS offices. With the new application, passengers will be able to buy metro tickets with their mobile phones. Once the number of rides has been chosen, an electronic ticket is uploaded in the telephone. The NFC technology makes it possible to read the information from the telephone in the range of 10 sms. from the turnstile. The vice President of MTS is confident that it’s a very promising project which will help the development of mobile phone payments in Russia. The Head of Moscow metro Dmitry Gaev hopes that passengers will see the advantages of the system very soon. The project is aimed at improving passenger service and coping with long queues at ticket offices in peak hours.
