
Moscow Monorail Transport System (MMTS) is the first monorail system of Russia. Its construction began in 2001. The monorail route is located in the north of the city – the line runs from the northern entrance of All-Russian Exhibition Centre to Timiryazevskaya station. The line runs at the height of 6 metres from the ground and its highest point is Ulitsa Korolyova station (12 m). The line comprises 12 stations located at intervals of 700-800 metres. Special rolling stock was devised for the line. Each train consists of 6 cars with the seating capacity of 44 places.
 18.10.2004 - the beginning of a trial run of MMTS. 10.11.2004 - Trains began running daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. carrying design engineers, builders and metro workers. Two trains operated on the line with the headway of 30 minutes. 20.11.2004 - Monorail transport system was opened for public use offering sightseeing. Passengers could get on a train only at dead-end stations such as Ulitsa Sergeya Eizenshteina and Timiryazevskaya, and get off at any other station. The fare was 50 rubles (25 rubles for students and pupils). Children under 6 could travel free of charge provided they were accompanied by an adult. 15.08.2005 - Monorail transport system began operating from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Additional entrances at Vystavochny Tsentr and Teletsentr were opened for passengers. Passengers could get off at any of the six stations. The headway was shortened to 20 minutes and the rolling stock increased.
