Opening date: 30.12.1963 The station was opened as a part of line section between Universitet and Yugo-Zapadnaya.
Station design: three-vaulted shallow column-type station built to a standard project. The station contains two rows of 40 square columns.

The station was named after a Russian academician, mineralogist and geochemist Vladimir Vernadsky (1863-1945). The columns of the station are faced with yellowish Uralian marble and the track walls are tiled with white, blue and black glazed tiles. The lighting is concealed in the embossed ceiling. The east ticket hall of the station was constructed inside Obuv’-City trade centre in 2001. It contains a marble bust of V.Vernadsky (sculptor – Z.Vilensky).
