Opening date: 05.04.1953 The station was opened as a part of a line section between Kievskaya and Ploshchad Revolutsii.
Station design: three-vaulted pylon-type deep-level station built to the standard design.

The station features red marble pylons, grey granite floor and white and black track walls of glazed tiles. The pylons and the vault are decorated with floral reliefs and the station is lit by bronze chandeliers. The east escalator tunnel leads to Arbatskaya, Aleksandrovsky Sad and Biblioteka Imeni Lenina stations. There is also a transfer to Borovitskaya station. The west vestibule is now inside the building of the Ministry of Defence General Staff. There used to be a mosaic portrait of Stalin (artist G.Opryshko) opposite the west escalator arch.
