Opening date: 30.12.1972 The station was opened as a part of a line section between Barrikadnaya and Oktyabr’skoe Pole.
Station design: three-vaulted column-type shallow station built to the standard project. The station features two rows of 26 columns.

The station is named for the namesake district. The track walls are faced with white and grey marble and decorated with steel panels with the images of a hammer and a sickle (artists D.Bodniek, Kh.Rysin). It was the first time anodized aluminum had been used for facing the station columns in Moscow metro. The floor of the station hall is paved with dark granite and marble.
