KITAY-GOROD
see all stations of this line

Opening date: 03.01.1971
The station was opened with the westbound extension of Zhdanovskaya radial line and northbound extension of Kaluzhskaya radial line.

Station design: three-vaulted column-type deep-level station with pre-cast iron lining.
The complex consists of two independent stations.

Station architects: А.Strelkov, L.Lilie, V.Litvinov, М.Markovsky (west station hall), L.Malashonok (west station hall), I.Petukhova, I.Taranov (vestibules)
Design engineers: E.Barsky, Yu.Muromtsev, А.Semyonov

The station is named after a Moscow district.
It consists of two separate, parallel station halls. Southbound trains heading towards Taganskaya (the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line) and Tretyakovskaya (the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line) come via the western station hall while nortbound trains heading towards Kuznetsky Most (the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line) and Turgenevskaya (the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line) come via the eastern one.
The vault of the western station hall is supported by two rows of faceted light yellow marble columns, therefore the station has a nickname “Crystal”. Large embossed cornices of anodized aluminum running along the base of the ceiling (artists Kh.Rysin, A.Lapin, D.Bodniek) hide the illumination lamps. The track walls are faced with white and grey marble and adorned with embossed panels with the images of a hammer and a sickle. The floor is paved with grey marble of different shades.
The eastern station hall is called Garmoshka because of its light grey and yellow marble columns. The track walls are faced with light colored glassed marble and adorned with metal panels depicting burning torches. The floor is paved with grey granite.
A passageway in the centre of the hall links one hall with the other. Two underground vestibules also allow passengers to transfer.
The south ends of the station halls lead to the joint underground vestibule while the north ends of the station halls are connected with the underground vestibule by the means of flights of stairs, corridors and escalators. The transfer passage contains a bust of Victor Nogin (sculptor A.Shlykov).

Exit to: ploshchad Ilyinskie Vorota, Slavyanskaya ploshchad, Solyansky tupik and ploshchad Varvarskie Vorota.
