Opening date: 28.12.1995 The station was opened as a part of a line section between Chkalovskaya and Volzhskaya.
Station design: pillar-type three-vaulted deep-level station. The station is an unusual project with no underplatform spacing and all of the infrastructure sitting on a massive monolithic plate.

The station is called after the capital of Italy. Italian architects G.Imbrigi and A.Cuatrocci worked at the design of the station. The columns and the pylons are faced with aluminum plates and different types of marble. The suspended ceiling is also made of aluminum. The pylons are grey and the floor is paved with red, black and grey marble. The theme of the station décor is the sights of Rome. The station is adorned with four plaques made by sculptor L.Berlin and a sculpture «Fountain» depicting the founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus.
Transfer: up the escalators from the north end of the central hall to Ploshchad Ilyicha of the Kalininskaya line.
Way out: via the south vestibule (opens at 5:42) up the escalators to Ploshchad Rogozhskaya Zastava, ulitsa Mezhdunarodnaya, ulitsa Rabochaya, Shosse Entuziastov, Rogozhsky Val and Serp i Molot railway platform.
